Pulling in a number of online resources, including news headlines, fixtures, results, social media interactions, and linking out to the BBC's mobile Matchday service, Scottish Football Hub joins a number of standalone hub apps for English teams (such as this one for Liverpool FC), but allows you to follow any of the teams in the four top professional leagues in Scotland.
When you first open the app, you can select your own team (and if you change your mind later, just go to the settings screen). This populates the main hub view with details on your team, and colours the app according to your team's colours, which is a nice touch for the fan. It would be nice to be able to select some other teams and have multiple hubs in a panorama style view. The selection of the team also drives the live tile, which flips between the crest of your chosen team, and their most recent headline in the news.
The Scottish Football Hub gathers the news headlines from a number of sources, and each one is credited in the app. The story itself will be opened in the web browser and you'll be reading the article from the original source.
Given the amount of action that has happened in Scottish Football off-the-field, from bankruptcies and takeovers, to league reorganisation and rival factions at a number of clubs, this approach will allow those stories to be on show as well as match reports and team news throughout the season.
The main features in the app, listed in the App Directory, are:
- Team news
- Results and fixtures
- League table
- Twitter messages
- Links to YouTube videos for your team
- Link to BBC's live Matchday mobile site to keep up with all the latest scores for the day
- Live tile of your team's badge
- The whole app adapts to your team's colours
Scottish Football Hub is a free download from the Windows Store, with a paid for version to remove the in-app advertising bar. You can find it in our App Directory here.
