A gentle reminder to record a daily video with your Video Diary

Published by at

Video Diary is an interesting app that has been highlighted today in the Windows Store. Offering you a video recording app which stores the videos outside of the camera roll stream, the apps acts as a more 'private' way to record messages, but also provides gentle reminders if you are looking to record thoughts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

By recording outside of the regular apps which interface with the Photos hub, video Diary sues the silo'ed nature of apps on Windows Phone to its benefit. Videos won't show up in your photo stream, will not be automatically synced or backed up, and will not be available from other third party apps using the Windows Phone OS media selection tool. In that sense these videos are private, but anyone picking up your phone will still be able to open the app and watch the videos.

It does mean you are reliant on the application itself to get the videos off your phone, but Video Diary will allow you up upload your videos either to your SkyDrive account (to a specific folder, away from other video uploads) or to a DropBox account.

If you are looking to share a video outside of those services, the 'pro' version of the app is called Video Journal, which allows sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and Windows Live. It also allows you to use the forward facing camera on your Windows Phone to record the video.
