With a quick name change, ESPNFC brings you a world of football

Now the UK's football season is well under way, there are more apps looking for your attention to bring you the news and results. ESPN's SoccerNet is one of them, although you'll need to look for the new name in the Windows Phone Store, because it's been renamed 'ESPNFC'

Using the settings option, you can set up the app with the leagues you want it to report on, and mark your favourite teams to configure the screens of the app. Although I'm a bit miffed at the 'International' teams covered. England is there, but the rest of the home countries are missing...

Opening on the 'scores and tables' part of the Panorama means the app looks rather bare on opening, with the richer views of news and video on tabs found to the side. News articles are presented inside the application, using ESPN's wide range of contributors and reporters, while the video tab provides short bulletins and highlights from around your selected leagues, including ESPN FC's dedicated 'Extra Time' highlights reel that is put together especially for ESPNFC readers.

ESPNFC's advantage as a football reporting app is in the parent company's resources. there is no need to aggregate news from other sources, and the media contracts mean video clips are plentiful. Whether you prefer this single viewpoint or not will determine if you're a fan of the app, but ESPN is normally pretty on the ball for facts and stories - although a little conservative in opinion pieces.
