The Sun Live app gives you a ring side seat to solar activity

Published by at

The Sun Live, the latest release Saalbach Apps, adds a little wonder to your day by showing you the latest images of the sun captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is currently orbiting the earth. The images, many of which are breathtaking, come in three categories, each with their own pivot page, chromosphere, photosphere, and corona.

As noted by the developer, we're close to maximum of the 11 year solar cycle, with the solar magnetic field expected to flip sometime in the next few months, so our Sun is expected to show a lot of activity in the near future. The app will show you the action as it happens, letting you hunt for prominences, flares, sun spots and other solar phenomenon.

The stunning imagery that can be accessed through The Sun Live is an obvious candidate for sharing. Thankfully, the app let you save any of the images locally, or share them through the platforms standard sharing framework (email, messaging, social media, and more).

The app also includes optional lockscreen integration (show latest images when you lock/unlock device) and, when pinned to the Start screen, the apps Live Tile will also show the latest solar image.
