Unofficial client MetroCritic brings MetaCritic to Windows Phone

Published by at

There's a huge amount of regard for the MetaCritic website, which aggregates product reviews from around the internet, as well as user generated reviews on the main site. Windows Phone users could use the mobile version of the site, but there's a new third party client that they might be interested in... MetroCritic.

Developed by Think Air Studios, the client is still being labelled as a final beta, so if you do have any issues, let the developers know through the feedback screen in the app.

Naturally the app makes good use of the Windows Phone 8 design language, from the main panorama screen to the individual pages for the item being reviewed. Focusing on music, film, games, and television, you have a solid search function so you can jump straight to your chosen topic, or you can browse through the categories and have a little explore of the recent releases to find something new.

MetaCritic as a whole has a focus on two areas, the average score and the aggregated reviews. MetroCritic shows the average scores clearly, and also gives you the option to read the full reviews. It does falls down a little in the presentation of these reviews - with a basic list and no smart use of headings or icons to break up the flow presenting you with a big block of text. But you can click through these reviews and be taken to the original review in the web browser.

This app makes it easy to browse ratings for the latest movies, games, TV shows and music albums. Search allows you to skip the lists and find the specific content that interests you. Pin MetroCritic and receive the updates you care about most to a dynamic live tile. (You can choose which content interests you most from the settings.)

MetroCritic is a free download, and you can find it in the AAWP App Directory.
