There's a paucity of 'hack and slash' up games on Windows Phone, so the arrival of Heroes of Mythology is going to be welcomed by many games. With clear graphics, and a keen sense of traditional gameplay, this is a fun game to play.

Taking on the role of either Achilles or Hercules, you'll be fighting through wave after wave of mythical enemies, with the usual insurmountable odds, lone hero fighting through, etc, making up the threadbare story line.

But we're here for the death and the combat! And collecting gold from the fallen so we can buy more weapons and power-ups in the shop between each wave.

With a virtual joystick under your left thumb that lets you move around the level, and two buttons under your right thumb for 'attack' and 'jump/roll out of the way', old school gamers are going to feel at home with the controls. They're accessible and not too complicated (which is good for a mobile game), and while those new to the genre might think the movement is a bit slow, the precise pace shown by the characters is exactly how this genre played in the late 80's.

It's not 'Golden Axe' but it will do for now.
