Spreading itself over a large 'open world', Gameloft's historical 3D action game will see you picking up missions and goals from helpful locals. All of these are genre affairs, such as defending a town from outlaws wanting to shoot everything in site, attacking a local fortification that is overrun with bad guys, to defending a sacred tree (err, I think I missed that in The Searchers).
With a 3D viewpoint just behind the man with a name (Buck Crosshaw, a name that is probably the only mistake in presentation that Gameloft have made), you'll be using a virtual stick to move, swiping the rest of the screen to look around, and the bullet chamber of your gun to fire.
The mission structure lends itself to short bursts of game play with minimal walking and exploring of the world, so you'll always be able to jump in to the game and swagger around like the hero you've searched for inside yourself.
Having played through a few levels, my over-riding concern is that Six-Guns is a freemium title. The in-app advertising is not enough for Gameloft, they need to load up the title with two in-game currencies (coins and stars), with the ability to earn some in the game, or buy them via the Windows Store (from £1.49 for 6,000 coins, to £69.99 for 700 stars).
How well balanced the freemium level is, how well the game plays, and if it keeps me coming back for me? I'll let you know next week with our official review, but for now head over to the AAWP App Directory to download your copy and find out yourself.
