Microsoft have been quick to pounce on the numbers and reiterate the growth of Windows Phone in what is the third largest overall market of consumers. Here's Mcirosoft's Vineet Durani.
"Less than ten months back, when we launched Windows Phone 8 in India, we had set ourselves the goal of being the second most widely used smartphone platform in India, and we are excited to have achieved this milestone so quickly. We have a great device line up, as well as an amazing app experience delivered through the Windows Phone Store. Together with the inherent strengths of the Windows Phone platform, the overall end-consumer experience is unique and immersive, which is driving this amazing uptake and will help us scale further."
Android is just a little bit ahead - actually with over half the market it's an order of magnitude away - so there's a lot of work to do, and the market share in India is commensurate with the rest of the world, but a win is a win, and an upwards trend is going in the right direction.
