Takeaway's Windows Phone app updated to improve food ordering

Published by at

Ordering fast food from your phone is on the increase, and the Netherlands based Takeaway.com is established in a number of countries providing an online service to many independent restaurants. Their suite of localised applications (of which Takeaway.com is the UK version) has been updated to v1.4 with the inclusion of an online tracking service (where available), restaurant reviews, and improved payment options.

Takeaway acts as an aggregator of services with this application (which is derived from their web based service). They don't own any of the restaurants you order from, or buy orders in bulk. They act as a middleman, passing your order through their system to the establishment, who will then prepare and deliver your order as if you had placed the order directly with them.

It's a system that has a number of competitors (Just-eat in the UK springs to mind) but it works best if you know the local establishments and you need the convenience of ordering from your phone. I suspect this is why the 'reviews' section has been added to the app to help out when visiting an unfamiliar area or are looking for something new.

The major changes in v1.4 are:

  • Kitchen Selection
  • Restaurant reviews
  • Food Tracker
  • New payment methods: Pin or use your Credit Card to pay on delivery if the restaurant offers that option
  • Layout adjustments
  • Bug fixes

The service covers the UK (Takeaway), France (Pizza.fr), Belgium (Pizza.be), Germany (Lieferservice.de), the Netherlands (Thuisbezorgd.nl), and Austria (Lieferservice.at), and you can download the clients via the AAWP App Directory.
