As with other middleware platforms (Havok, Marmalade, Unity), adding Corona SDK support to Windows Phone should result in a greater number of apps and games being released for Microsoft's mobile platform. While some work may be required to prepare a game for release of an additional platform using Corona, it is much less than creating the game from scratch. Moreover, Corona, also says that its tool enables developers to build apps and game up to "10 times faster", which "reduces the time to market" and allows for "increased iteration speeds".
Corona SDK powers a number of well known mobile games including Fun Run, Major Magnet, Blast Monkeys, Bubble Ball, and Sushi Friends. There's no guarantee that these games will arrive on Windows Phone, but the advent of support for Windows Phone 8 in the Corona SDK does make it much easier for the developers in question to port their titles.
Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp said:
"Corona’s platform has attracted a large number of successful developers who will be able to easily extend their apps into the Windows ecosystem."
David Rangel, COO, Corona Labs, said:
"Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 have proven to be great platforms for developers, and their growing user base presents a large opportunity. We look forward to working with Microsoft, empowering Corona developers to build apps for Windows devices and reaching an even broader audience for their apps and games."
