GoPro update Windows Phone 8 client with HERO3+ camera support

Published by at

GoPro have updated their Windows Phone client for Windows Phone 8, adding in support for the Hero3+ Camera. The GoPro camera range are rugged and portable cameras, typically used by those in extreme sports, and can be remotely controlled by a number of devices.

Announce at MWC in March, the first version of the WP8 GoPro app did not support the Hero3+ range, which was vociferously pointed out in the reviews both in the Windows Store and online. This issue has now been addressed in v1.1 of the app, which is a free download.

The key features of app, according the app store listing, are:

  • Full remote control of camera functions
  • Live video preview for easy shot-framing
  • See the GoPro Photo and Video of the Day Camera
  • Compatibility
HERO3+ (remote camera control supported in select modes only)
HERO3 (requires camera software update, see gopro.com/update)
HD HERO2 with Wi-Fi BacPac™ (requires camera software update, see gopro.com/update

The app does require 1 GB of RAM to run on a Windows Phone 8 device, so a number of handsets (notably the HTC 8S and the Lumia 520/521) will not be compatible.

The GoPro WP8 client is available for free in the Windows Phone Store.
