Harlem, a poetry lesson: By Nokia Lumia 1020

Published by at

Back in September Nokia commissioned world famous photographers Bruce Weber and David Bailey to spend a day in the New York neighbourhood of Harlem capturing the essence of the place using the newly launched Nokia Lumia 1020. The end result? Some stunning images that did much to promote the capabilities of Nokia's imaging flagship.

Now, four months later, a short film, titled "Harlem, a poetry lesson: By Nokia Lumia 1020", which tells the story of the photo shoot has now been published on Nokia's Viemo account. The film, which was shot entirely using Lumia 1020 devices, was directed by Bruce Weber and includes a soundtrack by Gil Scott Heron, a noted American soul and jazz musician.

The film chronicles a full day where Weber took friend and fellow photography legend, David Bailey, to his favourite neighbourhood of Harlem to capture the heart and soul of New York’s most vibrant community. Weber said: “One of the best things in the world is to share your life behind the camera with a friend”. The pair were working together for the first time and captured over 1000 images in Harlem on their Nokia Lumia 1020’s, showcasing the phones imaging capabilities in a contextual and truly human way.

Bruce Weber dedicated the film to American soul and jazz poet, musician and author, Gil Scott-Heron. The self defined “bluesologist” provides the soundtrack to the short film that celebrates an area he spent much of his early years in.
