Rovio has delivered a Christmas present to fans of its Bird-flinging game series, adding more than new 135 levels to play over Christmas, courtesy of updates for five out of six of the Windows Phone 8 Angry Birds titles. Highlights include the final Death Star showdown in Angry Birds Star Wars and a new underwater attack in the arctic theme levels of Angry Birds Seasons.

Angry Birds (version 4.0.0.0) gets 30 new levels as part of the new Short Fuse episode. The new levels are set in a "piggy laboratory with wacky scientists and crazy potions". There's a new shock wave power for bomb ("creates a powerful circle of electricity and unleashes an almighty blast") and new powerful potions "Experiment with three powerful piggy potions to make those green snout-nosed creatures look even stranger than normal"). As a fourth birthday celebration there are also 15 new Birthday themed levels in this update.

Angry Birds Seasons (version 4.0.1.0) gets 29 new levels with a festive theme (25 advent calendar levels, plus 4 bonus levels). The levels fall under the new arctic theme ("face sub-zero temperatures, large blocks of ice and some rather cold piggies") and includes a new underwater attack ("plan a surprise attack by flinging the birds under the icy Arctic waters and up toward those pesky pigs").

Angry Birds Rio (version 1.8.0) gets 26 new Rocket Rumble levels ("the party’s starting but those mischievous monkeys keep getting in the way"). The Angry Birds character Stella arrives in the game for the first time, along with her powerful bubble blower. There also a new game play feature ("hit the fuse to set off some bright and blazing firework) and you get to meet Rocket Bird for help in reaching the bonus levels.

Angry Birds Star Wars (version 1.5.0) gets 30 new levels as part of a final update to the game focusing on the final showdown in the Death Star with Lard Vader and the Emperor. There are 15 space battles featuring a massive Imperial Star Destroyer, plus a final 15 Death Star levels. There is, of course, also the final show down, in which you'll need to use your Jedi skills to defeat the fearsome Emperor... and you get to find out who's behind Lard Vader's mask.

Star Wars

Angry Birds Star Wars II (version 1.2.1.0) gets 44 new levels and 3 new free characters as part of the latest Battle of Naboo chapter. There are 20 new pork side levels ("launch an attack on Naboo’s capital city and face the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in the big boss fight"), 20 new bird side levels ("face the enemy on the devastated battlefields of Naboo and then continue the battle in space") and four hidden levels. The new free characters are Padme, Captain Panaka and Zam Wesell. The new version also adds support for Angry Birds Telepods ("teleport your favorite characters into the game by placing your Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods figures on your device’s camera").
