Pigs Can't Fly wafts on to Windows Phone

Pigs Can't Fly from chillsters, currently available exclusively for Windows Phone, is the latest casual game to catch our eye. Predicting what will be popular is notoriously difficult, but a combination of good looking graphics, decent audio, and a style of game play that draws on themes from multiple hit titles is going to be a decent bet. The cutesy characters and clever branding are going to help too.

Here's the back story as described by chillsters:

And this little piggy went to Hell! Here is the story of Pig. From his death at the Bacon Factory he rose as an angel floating into the sky going to Pig Heaven (it's a thing). But misfortune fall upon our pink hero when he got hit by a Boeing 747 passenger airliner mid flight & fell down towards Earth. As he approached Earth the ground opened with a portal to Hell and our helpless hero fell to his doom.  Now trapped in the place of pain and suffering he must escape this place of doom & gloom avoiding the deadly traps, hazards & demon monsters that lurk the fiery underworld.

What that translates to is navigating a flying big through various obstacle and monster ridden levels by tapping one of on-screen two controls (left and right). There's an element of Flappy Bird about the game (button bashing steering at just the right moment),with a style that is reminiscent of Angry Birds, and an overal game play objective that recalls Lunar Lander.

The game comprises four acts, each of which has twenty of levels, providing decent value for money. You should find it easy to complete the early levels, but as you progress things become more and more difficult. That's partly because new obstacles and monsters are introduced, but also because the flight passages required become more complex.

As well as playing through the levels there's also the opportunity to collect starts (some of which are very hard to reach), which lets you unlock additional Character skins. There's no real benefit to doing so, but the extra challenge does help improve the longevity of the game.
