F1uptodate your complete F1 companion through the season

Published by at

Unusually, coming from Symbian rather than another mobile platform, F1uptodate brings a lovingly curated set of data and live features to F1 fans everywhere, with more features promised when Windows Phone 8.1 hits officially (e.g. countdowns on live tiles).

From the Store description:

Follow the Formula 1™ season with F1uptodate. The app provides everything you need to stay up to date during the year in an easy-to-use Windows Phone-optimized user interface.

  • NEWS - Set up your favorite news source to get all F1™-related news. Read them either in IE or an eye-friendly browser directly in F1uptodate.
  • DRIVER and TEAMS - Find detailed infos about all driver and teams and mark your favorite ones to have them highlighted in results and standings.
  • RACES - Do not miss any race with the calendar in F1uptodate providing all race and track data, start times, a countdown to the next session and qualifying and race results.
  • STANDINGS - Find out who is leading the Driver and Constructor Championship in an easy way.
  • LIVE (beta) - Follow sessions live on your phone if you cannot watch them with the unofficial live scoring by ScoresPro.com (only for races), live comments and additional data provided by myself.
  • LIVE TILES - Set up all major tiles of the F1uptodate menu as tiles on your Start screen with transparent tile support ready for Windows Phone 8.1 (a countdown tile will come once WP8.1 has been released officially).

As an F1 fan myself, I jumped on this immediately, it's a terrific melding of a reference app and online information sources - a true companion:

Your opening view of F1uptodate - a very WP tile effect - nice! (right) underlying everything here is a database of everything to do with Formula 1 - static where needed and dynamic/updated where needed...

One example, you can link through directly to the mobile version of each F1 team's Twitter feed; (right) one slight hiccup is that the news feed is not only configurable, it's not even pre-populated....

...requiring users to have to each go look up and type in their chosen feed URL - couldn't something be pre-inserted? Or chosen by a user from a list of possibles? (right) with the news feeds in place, the remaining white tile now has content, etc.

The news feed is shown in typical RSS summary fashion and then you can (right) tap through to the full stories in a Readability mode.

During races, live timings are shown, along with official autosport live tweets, just a swipe away...

The reference side of things is lavish, with photos and track layouts.....

Wonderful stuff. F1uptodate is a free download here in the Store. Though if like it then you might like to donate the developer directly here. You can also find him on Twitter here.
