Windows 10 Mobile Camera gets Rich Capture UI fix and faster auto-focus

Admittedly mainly of interest to those using the W10M Insiders builds of the new OS on existing hardware, but then that's most of you, right? Many core Windows 10 Mobile applications have been updated in the Store this week, but just occasionally I spot a change/fix of interest. In this case to do with the Camera UI on devices like the Lumia 930 and 1520.

Taking Windows 10 Camera up to v2015.1201.41.0, this update:

  • fixes the UI issue whereby the Rich Capture 'magic wand' was shown without the 'no entry' slash even when it wasn't active. Now the 'disabled' status is clearly shown when the application starts and then turns on and off properly thereafter.
  • improves the speed and reliability of auto-focus
  • improves the speed of launching even further (it was already very fast)

Notably absent from the update is a fix for the 'mono' audio recording when shooting videos. Microsoft, we badly need stereo support (and beyond, to Dolby Surround Sound) back, pretty please!

This was screwed up on the Lumia 930, Icon and 1520 (and possibly a few other devices) - it now works properly, with the 'disabled' sub-icon shown from startup.
