Mini-review: Moto Rider GO: Highway Traffic

Published by at

I'm a sucker for first person racers and, while this isn't quite that, more of an endless 'runner', the graphics and feel and finesse needed definitely attracted me. Yes, Moto Rider GO: Highway Traffic is a freemium game, but the in-app-purchases aren't crazy and there are daily rewards that mean you might never need to pay a penny.

Roads and highways are full of speeding cars – they can bother you!

SELECTION OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE MOTORBIKES - Have you ever wanted to ride a motorcycle in real life? Great! Every bike has its own individual extras: total lives, near miss bonus, high-speed bonus or wrong way bonus.

A TON OF TUNING AND CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS - Go to the garage and select one of the high-performance motorbikes. Tune your vehicle and customize its appearance. Choose your favorite body color and slap on some well-designed decals! Give your rides your own style. Increase your motorbike's speed, breaking level and add extra lives – these will all have a definite impact on your bike's performance.

Here's Moto Rider GO: Highway Traffic in action on my Lumia 950:

The number of traffic areas/scenery sets is higher than you might think, thanks to variations in lighting and exact location. Just work through Story mode level by level and you'll be going longer and faster with every ride.

Four different control methods - which should suit everyone. 'Tilt' is most intuitive in my view.

And so to the road, here at night with moody lighting. It's not entirely clear when you'd do the whole 'wheelie' thing, but hey, you can do it with the control, bottom right. More usually, you'll use the brake, bottom left, especially when riding up to the back of heavy traffic, as here.

At sunrise - or sunset - and out on the open freeway, as Americans call them... mind that stretched limo!

You get a summary after each ride (ok, each eventual crash!), in terms of distance, along with nags tio use some in-app purchases. Plus doubling your cash by watching a video ad. OK, so this is freemium through and through, but it's... under control.

Crashes are spectacular and from your own viewpoint. Ouch. The game also makes you rather aware of the dangers awaiting those bikers we've all seen who weave in and out of traffic!

The IAPs aren't trivial, but they're also not too large. For under £10 you could be racing for weeks, if not months, plus customising your bike to high heaven.

Daily rewards should keep you coming back, but miss one and you're back to day one! A cunning way to keep players playing!

Back on the road again, this time in the heat of the sun, you can almost smell the asphalt...

You can grab Moto Rider GO: Highway Traffic here in the Store, for either Windows Phone 8.1 or Windows 10 Mobile. It's rather good - not too easy, not too difficult, and adrenaline filled at all times.
