BBC Radio Player tweaks World Service streams and the Electronic Program Guide

Published by at

Igneous Software's BBC Radio Player (reviewed here) has been updated to v2.7 to take care of some niggling issues with the audio streams from the BBC World Service. That's on top of the recent changes in v2.6 to improve reliability of the streams, and better discovery in the station picker and electronic program guide.

Changelog for v2.6 and v2.7:

  • Version 2.7
    • Fixed broken World Service streams
  • Version 2.6
    • Further reliability improvements
    • Renamed BBC Radio 6
    • Improved discoverability of station picker
    • Improved handling of 5 Live Extra EPG

Whilst unofficial, the BBC Radio Player uses audio streams provided by the BBC for hackers and developers to work with, and with my travelling around Europe and further afield this year, it's been fun to have my phone (over Wi-fi) acting like a little radio and letting me keep up to date with my favourite programs while abroad. The trial version has the six main national stations, and the paid for version will open up all the BBC local radio stations for your aural pleasure.
