SkyDrive app gets refreshed icon and visuals in 2.2 update

An updated version, 2.2, of Microsoft's official SkyDrive app is now available in the Windows Phone Marketplace. The updated version brings the SkyDrive branding in the app in line with that used on the web and in the desktop app. The visuals of the app have also been updated, with dark blue squares used in place of folder icons.

The branding update helps tie the app in with the look and feel of its web and desktop counterparts, something that will become increasingly important as cloud storage and integration takes centre stage in Windows 8.

If you use SkyDrive it is well worth installing the app as it provides an easy way to view all the files in your SkyDrive from your Windows Phone device, share files and folders with friends, and manage folder permissions. The Windows Phone app, when used with the desktop and web apps, allow SkyDrive to provide a compelling consumer cloud service, that makes it very easy to move files between PCs, tablet and mobile devices. The service is free up to 7GB, with tiered pricing available for those who require additional storage.

There's still room for improvement in the mobile app, for example, we would like to see a way to select multiple files for upload and support for remote computer access / ability to stream files from your desktop (as seen in web version).

Marketplace description:

SkyDrive is the place to store your files so you can access them from virtually any device. Windows Phone has built-in access to SkyDrive right from the Office and Pictures hubs. It can also automatically upload pictures that you take to SkyDrive for easy access. Now the SkyDrive app for Windows Phone makes it even easier to manage and share files—all in one place.

The official Microsoft SkyDrive app can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace for free.
