PhoneBuff tests Nokia Lumia 920 to destruction

Published by at

In our recent review of the Lumia 920 we noted that Nokia's Windows phone flagship was a mechanically strong handset, well able to stand up to the rigours of day to day usage. PhoneBuff evidently noticed the same thing and, to prove the point, decided to put the handset through a series of tests, documenting the whole process on video.

From the simple drop test, though the classic key scratch test, to the running it over with car test (more survival than you might think) there's plenty of circumstantial evidence to suggest the Lumia 920 is a very robust smartphone. Viewers of a sensitive disposition may want to avoid watching the last video. The Nokia Lumia 920 does not survive, but a surprising amount of effort is required to send it to its grave.

Nokia Lumia 920 Drop Test

In this video, I do a drop test on the Nokia Lumia 920. I drop the phone from the waist, the chest, and the head to give you an idea on how the phone will fare if you drop it in real life. Also, this drop test is a good indicator of the overall durability of the Lumia 920.

Hammer & Knife Scratch Test

I test the durability of the Nokia Lumia 920 by scratching it with car keys, slicing away at it with a knife, slamming a mallet on it's screen, and finally using it to hammer in a nail into a piece of wood. How does the Lumia 920 fare after these extreme tests? Watch the video to find out!

Nokia Lumia 920 Destuction: What does it take?

In this final torture test of the Nokia Lumia 920, I run the WP8 smartphone over with my car, hit it with a 2x4, throw it against a cement lamp post, throw it 15+ feet in the air, and smash it into the ground. How does the Lumia 920 fare? Watch the video to find out!
