Zuma's Revenge and Flight Control Rocket coming to Windows Phone

Published by at

Over on the Nokia Conversations blog, the team are talking to EA's Glenn Roland about the importance of Windows Phone 8. Nokia have an exclusive arrangement with EA for a number of Xbox Live titles (including Spy Mouse and Mirror's Edge), and I'd expect this to continue into 2013. Two new titles are mentioned in the article, and while it's not clear if they are also covered by the exclusive deal, I'm excited to hear that Zuma's Revenge and Flight Control Rocket are heading to Windows Phone in 2013.

Zuma's Revenge

Zuma's Revenge is one of the insanely addictive games from PopCap. The goal is simple, match coloured balls spat out from your centrally placed frog to a long line that is winding its way around the screen. Revenge adds in more levels, power-ups, and boss battles to the action.

Flight Control Rocket is the sequel to the Grand-Daddy of the line drawing genre, Flight Control. 'Rocket continues the basic idea of the game, but presents you with new challenges such as rescuing astronauts, colour bonuses, and score multipliers for landing rockets in quick succession. There's also the caveat that other mobile versions of this title encourage in-app purchasing through the freemium model.

Flight Control Rocket

There's no indications when these titles will be available, but the fact they are mentioned in an official blog means they are likely to be either finished or going through final testing, so it's a good guess we'll see these during Q1 of 2013.

The interview is also a chance for EA and Nokia to promote Windows Phone 8 as a platform both in its own right, but also alongside Windows 8, and it's worth noting this quote from Roland:

Candidly, the shift to Windows Phone 8 was the best thing that could have happened to us. It is a native code base and it has given us the ability to get to the platform much faster and with significantly more ease. It also gives us the ability to get to Windows 8 on desktops significantly faster. You’re about 80-85% on the way there to delivering a Windows 8 game from a Windows Phone 8 game.
