Nokia Lumia 928 goes on sale online, ships on May 20th

The Nokia Lumia 928 is now available to order online from US operator Verizon, with the first devices shipping next Monday (May 20th). That's slightly later than retails stores, which are selling the phone from today. The device, which is exclusive to the US's largest operator, will cost $99 on a two year contract, or $499 on a month to month contract.

At its heart the Lumia 928 is effectively a Verizon version of the Lumia 920 carried by AT&T. However, there are a number of important design differences, including a reduced thickness (10.7mm versus 10.1mm) and weight (185g versus 162g), a blockier casing design, and the presence of a Xenon flash on the rear of the device.

As we noted in our earlier story the Lumia 928's pricing is agressive:

The pricing on the Lumia 928 is an aggressive move from Nokia and Verizon. The high end smartphone price with a contract in the US is the $200 mark, while the mid-range handsets come in at half the price for an attractive $100 price tag. The $150 price could have put the Lumia 928 in a no-mans-land of not quite being a super smartphone, but being more expensive than the humdrum middle class.

With the addition of a rebate, the $99 price can be pushed heavily, and gives the Lumia 928 a $100 price differential between the base Samsung Galaxy S4 model. The $100 was a critical price point that the team of Verizon and Nokia had to meet to give the handset any chance of success, so I'm glad to see this has been achieved.
