Yammer is a social network service for enterprise, which was acquired by Microsoft last year, and is intended to enhance communication in the work place by bringing "employees, content, conversation, and business data" together in a single convenient location. It is sometimes described as "Facebook for business users", with an aim of improving productivity.
Microsoft's roadmap for the Yammer products calls on it to be a "conversation layer" for Microsoft's enterprise products, integrating with existing products such as Office and SharePoint. This strategy extends to Windows Phone as the mobile client of choice for Microsoft's enterprise products lines. Future updates of the Yammer app should reflect this and, ultimately, we expect to see Yammer integrated into a future version of Windows Phone.
The latest version follows on from an update earlier this year that added support for previewing Office files and creating an account within the app, and update earlier this summer that improved image handling.
