10tons celebrates 10th anniversary with 79p game sale

Published by at

10tons, one of our favourite indie game developers, has reached 10th anniversary and to celebrate they've discounted all their games to 79p ($0.99 / €0.99) for the next two days (15th - 17th November). It's great chance to pick up a bargain, with some of the games reduced in price from £3 ($4.99). There's something for everyone in the 10tons collection, but as a starting point our picks would include Dragon PortalsSparkle 2Heroes of Kalevala, and King Oddball

Outside of these picks, you should really take a look at Trouserheart. One of 10tons newest titles, it recently was awarded first place (and $30,000) in Unity's and Microsoft's developer competition, which gives you some indication of its pedigree. Built on top of the Unity gaming engine, it combines great looking graphics and clever game play with the slightly off the wall humour that is one of the hallmarks of 10tons.

Review of 10tons titles

We've reviewed a number of 10tons games over the past few years:

Dragons Portal review:

Dragon Portals is polished, well put together, and has had some thought in the design process that creates a compelling mobile experience. It is still a match three game, and while it does feel unique, it doesn't feel new. But it does everything really well, and I don't think that people familiar with arcade puzzle games will be disappointed.

Sparkle review:

In terms of difficulty, Sparkle is perfectly pitched again. Slow players will still get a fair way into the game, while those with lightning reflexes will also face a challenge just a short while after. In addition to the main game mode, which you'll finish at some point in the distant future, there are 'challenge' and 'survival' modes, taking levels from the main game and seeing how quickly you can complete them or how many balls you can blast away before you're overwhelmed (building up different 'ranks' in the meantime).

Heroes of Kalevala review:

To make the game more interesting 10tons have included a storyline that draws on The Kalevala, a 19th-century work of epic poety compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Finnish and Karelian oral folklore and mythology. This takes the form of a combination of village building simulation, which has direct ties to the puzzle game play, and a fully voiced over storyline. It's one of the most unique approaches we've seen in this type of game and certainly makes Heroes of Kalevala stand out from other games of this genre.
