6snap hits v3.0, adds conversations and snap searching

Published by at

I won't pretend to be in the target market for SnapChat, but did want to report on a big update to the unofficial client, 6snap, reaching the big v3.0 today with the addition of chat conversation with your contacts, the display of older snaps and a search facility. It's still got some way to go to match the official clients on Android and iOS, but at least SnapChat fans have somewhere to go on Windows Phone.

Continuing the steady stream of updates to his social media clients, Rudy Huyn's 6snap advances to version 3.0, with this changelog:

  • chat conversation with your contacts
  • display more snaps, you can scroll to see old snaps)
  • search snaps

From our previous 6snap update story:

6snap is a third-party client for SnapChat, an image-based messaging service where the messages are available to view for a very short time on the receiver's handset before 'self-destructing' from the handset and from the SnapChat server.

The addition of conversations which don't expire quickly is new on SnapChat and it's clear that the service is expending to become just another messaging and communications system, Whatsapp/Skype/Facetime/iMessage-style. It's a competitive marketplace and I guess there was a relatively limited need for self-destructing snaps, so beloved of teenagers (apparently).
