Xbox Live-compatible, this game ticks all the social and achievement boxes, and with a huge degree of 3D polish to boot...

Tap to move your foot soldiers, tap to shoot - the single digit gameplay can sometimes get awkward, but as long as you're on the attack then the taps produce a largely consistent result  - note the usual tags, grenades, health packs and cash, all littered around, spoils of war, etc.!

Underlying it all, of course, are the usual freemium numbers, with weapons, speed and strength all attributes to aspire to, and with their respective costs going up exponentially...

One of the few defensive things you can do is get your troopers on the floor - this seems to magically protect them from any fire or explosion for a few seconds - wish it was this easy in the real world....

The isometric world is so well crafted and illustrated that it becomes almost immersive. Your little troopers are adept at finding a way to where you tap though, even round obstacles - if there's a route then they'll find it. In the cross-hairs here, a radio tower and a grenade in the air about to hit it (if you look closely). Boom! And yes, I was just about to swipe down to make my troopers duck!

The freemium in-app purchases are kept reasonable throughout, including this Zombie pack which - err.... - turns Tiny Troopers into something of a different game, apparently! Fun all round though. And a mere 79p to get rid of all ads is always a good thing to go for.

In terms of gameplay, Tiny Troopers is harder than it looks. There's always one bad guy waiting to jump out at you or some booby-trapped stash which blows up in your face - in this case mere yards from the hovering helicopter (your extraction point)!

Interestingly, the entry for this game is broken on Microsoft's web site, as I write this, though I'm sure it'll get fixed. In the meantime, search for it in the Store on your Windows Phone - it's there and working!

As with the first Tiny Troopers, there's a promo trailer for the sequel too:
