Shooting the Mexican Ring of Fire in 4K on the Lumia 930

Published by at

Just catching up with some oldish videos and stories and noticed that, although Stephen Alvarez's trip to the Mexican Ring of Fire was designed to shoot demo photos on the Lumia 640 XL (and nice they are too), the real star here (other than the scenery) was the Lumia 930, which shot all the video footage in 4K, and goes largely uncredited, save for a small note on the YouTube description. If you have a few minutes spare, a large monitor and lots of bandwidth, then crank the video below up to full quality and full-screen and enjoy. THIS is what the Lumia 930 (and Icon and 1520) can do, video wise. Very nice indeed.

Here we go then. Some background from the Conversations page:

I am Stephen Alvarez. National Geographic photographer and Microsoft Devices Ambassador. For the past two years I’ve been photographing the Seven Natural Wonders of the World with Lumia smartphones.

This spring I traveled to Mexico to photograph the Paricutin volcano and the Mexican Ring of Fire.

The photos from the 640 XL are nice enough in themselves, see here for my review of the device. But the 930's video is the most impressive part of the video below. Make sure you go full-screen, and then click on the little gearwheel to upgrade the streaming quality according to your monitor:

Comments? It's enough to make anyone want to travel*!

* should Microsoft have any exotic locations they want me to tackle 8-)
