New firmware for Surface Go and Surface Go 2

You'll have noticed that I'm a bit of a fan of the Surface Go series of ultra-mobile hybrids - last featured here. They're a super middle-ground between a smartphone and a full-on laptop, and running most of the Windows 10 UWP apps from your old Lumias helps a lot. Noteworthy over the weekend was a set of firmware updates for the Go range of hardware - nothing too exciting, but never say no to security and performance fixes!

If you have a Surface Go or Go 2, you'll see the following updated:

Intel HD Graphics 615 Improves graphics and system stability.
Intel Graphics Driver - Extension Addresses security updates and improves system stability
Intel ICLS Client - Extension Addresses security updates and improves system stability
Intel Management Engine Interface - System devices Addresses security updates and improves system stability
Intel Management Engine Interface - Extension Improves integration between system services
Surface Setting - System devices Resolves system orientation issue (Go 2 only)
Surface ME - Firmware Addresses security updates and improves system stability
Surface UEFI – Firmware Addresses security updates and improves system stability

The firmware updates are available in Windows Update now on your device(s).

My personal Surface Go has never been more stable, anecdotally. It's never the fastest device in the world, but it's solid, supremely flexible, and incredibly small and light.

You can buy the Go 2, along with Type Cover and/or Surface Pen on Microsoft's site here or, for slightly less money, on Amazon UK, starting here. Plus the original Go is now only available from third parties such as Amazon (e.g. here).
