Nokia's March Madness is over, the winners are announced

Published by at

Following a month of voting, promotion and a long series of blog posts, the Conversations by Nokia blog, with its readers, has finished counting over 15,000 votes during the contest and it has declared the winners.

32 apps selected by the team fought it out over 4 categories, with open voting at every step of the way. All of the applications were of a high quality and would make a great starter pack for a new user. I wonder if we'll see the 32 listed in the App Highlights section on Nokia Windows Phone devices? Anyway, the section winners were as follows.

Winner of the Games Category: Gravity Guy

Gravity Guy

Miniclip have done well here, with a good mix of easy to reach goals. For example, pass three checkpoints without dying, or flip Gravity 1000 times, right up to the almost impossible - complete a perfect run, i.e.  all the way through the story without dying once. As well as a good learning curve while playing, they've got a good curve on the XBox Live goals as well. In short, Gravity Guy is simple, fast, addictive, and has just enough skill to reward a good player. Definitely one to look out for.

Winner of the Social Apps Category: 4th and Mayor

4th and Mayor 4th and Mayor

4th and Mayor can do all the work of checking in and managing a Foursquare account, it does it with style, and it feels less of a chore than any other way of checking in. Now that the two major clients have released their updates for Mango, 4th and Mayor is going to be my preferred client.

Even before this latest update NextGen Reader was an impressive application. The core features of the application include full integration with Google Reader, a clean Metro UI design (which draw its inspiration from the Windows Phone email client), support for multiple live tiles (e.g. pin your favourite feed or folder to the start screen), integration with popular services (Twitter, Facebook, InstaPaper, YouTube, Read It Later, Readability) and a fully functional offline mode.
