Football club Paris Saint Germain gets official Windows Phone app

Published by at

Fans of Paris Saint German, a leading French football club, can now enjoy an official Windows Phone app. PSG Officiel provides easy access to news feeds, team calendar, results and exclusive pictures and videos from "inside the team". But the highlight is the inclusion of live text commentary for every game that the club takes part in.

The app gives access to an impressive range of content, which should keep even the more devoted fan happy. The content is largely drawn from the club's official website, which means it generally has a positive spin and follows the club official PR line. That doesn't really stop it being comprehensive and the multimedia elements are particularly impressive.

Windows Phone's Metro design language is used to good effect, with graphic heavy panoramas and a magazine type feel. It's these kind of content centric apps that show Metro in its best light.

PSG Officiel will obviously only be of direct interest to fans of the football club, but nonetheless it interesting to see that the French club has made the decision to extend its digital channels to Windows Phone (an iOS and Android app already exist). It is exactly this type of long tail app that Microsoft and its partners will need to win over to the Windows Phone ecosystems if its app catalogue is to enjoy strength in depth.
