Old instant messaging protocols don't disappear in to the night, they just pick up an update to their Windows Phone version. ICQ's free WP8 client has picked up an update that adds in better support for multimedia and improves the push notification system.

ICQ is currently owned by the Mail.ru Group, and the platform is still active with countless millions of users. Mail.ru is one of the leading Russian internet providers, and with Windows Phone's positive reception in Russia and Russian speaking countries, ICQ is definitely not a dead platform.

As well as ICQ, the client also talks to Facebook IM, Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru's IM platform, and your GTalk contacts.
