Zoomed Aircrane 1080p video example

Video capture examples from smartphones that are featured here often show rock gigs, but here's something a little different - a full on helicopter hovering (picking up water) fairly close to where Michael Faro-Tusino was standing with his Nokia Lumia 1020. The result is not only some impressive 1080p video footage, it's a testament to the PureView zoom - most of the footage was zoomed in by 4x, to the OIS in keeping the shot steady, and to the HAAC microphones for not distorting even with a helicopter's engine and blades nearby.

As usual with embedded videos, maximise the quality and playback window for full effect, if your bandwidth can stand it:

Especially noticeable is how clear the video is, even though Michael had used the PureView digital zoom for 4x magnification. 4x digital zoom on almost any other smartphone would mean blocky output, but every pixel in the 1080p footage from the Lumia 1020 is unique here and rather impressive - look at the clarity on the main and tail blades.

This footage was taken as part of Michael's short review of the device for My Nokia Blog, though his device seems to have had some very odd screen unlock issues (perhaps affected by the 'Super Sensitive Touch'? - I tend to keep 'Touch Sensitivity' set to normal, to avoid false screen actions and these sort of pocket disasters!)

Finally, as a gentle plug(!), note that Michael will be the guest on Phones Show Chat on Monday 16th Dec 2013, so I'll be asking him more about the 1020 and his experiences live on air.
