Xiaomi launches the sub-8" Mi Pad 2 64GB with... Windows 10

Perhaps file this under 'link of interest', since we're not talking Windows 10 Mobile here, but at under 8" for its screen, the new Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 64GB does run Windows 10 and it's potentially cheap as chips, at an equivalent price of under £140. Maybe. If you can get hold of one. It's certainly of interest though, with some details quoted below.

Mi Pad 2

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 has an Intel Atom processor and there are both Android and Windows 10 options. Remember that Windows 10 Mobile is currently ARM-only, but no doubt we'll see both ARM tablets and Intel-based smartphones (or at least phablets) in time.

This is the first Windows 10 tablet from Xiaomi, by the way. The Mi Pad 2 has a unibody aluminium design, Xiaomi claims that it's 18% thinner and 38g lighter than the original Mi Pad, should you have seen those. Specifications include:

  • Intel Z5 Z8500 ‘Cherry Trail’ Atom processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 322g
  • 7mm thick
  • 7.9" screen at 2048 x 1536
  • 8-megapixel rear camera
  • 5-megapixel front camera
  • 6190mAh battery
  • USB Type-C data/charging

What do you think? A nice in-between addition to the range of Windows 10 hardware, from phone to PC?
