Microsoft announces Surface Pro LTE, for December 2017

Microsoft has officially announced the Surface Pro LTE device during the Future Decoded conference in London today, initially available in two different Intel Core i5 models, one with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, the other with 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD. This LTE version of Surface Pro will be based on the Qualcomm X16 Gigabit Class LTE modem with up to 450 Mbps and should offer almost same battery life as the current WiFi-only model. It will support connectivity on 20 cellular bands.

Surface Pro with LTE Advanced is the latest addition to the Surface family and will begin shipping to business customers in December 2017. With a Cat 9 modem, Surface Pro with LTE Advanced is the fastest LTE-enabled laptop in its class. It delivers global connectivity with support of 20 cellular bands, so you can work, study, create or relax uninterrupted.

The Surface Pro LTE with Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD will cost $1,149 in the USA, without taxes, and the one with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD will cost $1,449, ditto. Expect UK prices to be similar in pounds, without VAT added. The Surface Pro LTE will be available to businesses for purchase in December 2017.

And no, to save you asking, there was no hint at a 'Surface Mobile' or 'Surface Phone'. That's still a likely bet for Spring 2018. Patience is a virtue in the Windows world, it seems!
