Enter the spec monster Vivo X70 Pro+ - in Asia first

Vivo is a Chinese manufacturer, part of the BBK group, that loves to play with cutting edge components. So, although the Vivo X70 Pro+ is only initially going to be available in China and across Asia, it's still worth summarising the aspirational spec level - if only to demonstrate the continuing rise in the industry 'bar'.

Vivo X70 Pro+

The Vivo X70 Pro+ has:

  • 6.78" Samsung E5 QHD HDR AMOLED display with refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz
  • Always-on display
  • 8/12GB RAM
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset
  • 256/512GB UFS 3.1 storage
  • IP68 water/dust resistance
  • Main camera: 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor with f/1.57, OIS and ZEISS optics with T* coating
  • Wide-angle camera: 48MP with pan tilt stabilization and ZEISS optics with T* coating
  • Telephoto camera 1: 12MP f/1.6, 2x, PDAF, OIS and ZEISS optics with T* coating
  • Telephoto camera 2: 8MP f/3.4, 5x periscope, PDAF, OIS and ZEISS optics with T* coating
  • 4500mAh battery
  • 55W fast charging via USB Type C
  • 50W wireless fast charging
  • Under-display optical fingerprint sensor
  • Origin OS 1 on Android 11
  • Vegan leather back

I can see the trend for dual telephoto cameras really taking off - it's the only way to really cover the zoom spectrum without too much digital guesswork beneath the periscope zoom limit.

Prices apparently start (converting from the Chinese) at about £700 in UK money, which seems reasonable, though of course a lot of water has to flow under the bridge before we see something like this in the UK and Europe.
