Poll of WP8 flagships puts Lumia 920 way ahead

After HTC's bullish reveal of the HTC Windows Phone 8X and 8S, one would be forgiven for thinking that HTC had taken over in the minds of prospective Windows Phone buyers. Time will tell whether that's the case, but several blogs have conducted a poll asking its readers which of the coming flagships they were most likely to buy, between forthcoming devices, such as the HTC 8X, Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung ATIV S. At the time of writing, the poll had received 5,320 votes and an overwhelming 85% voted for the Lumia 920.

If sales figures reflect the results of thess polls (and that's a big IF), it will beg the question as to whether Windows Phone is a worthwhile investment for HTC and Samsung. Microsoft is walking a fine line in keeping all of its partners happy in the shadow of its exclusive deal with Nokia, which appears to be bearing some fruit for the Finnish phone maker -- at least in terms of public mind-share.

HTC's reveal of the 8X and 8S was markedly confident, even going so far as to state that HTC had sold more Windows Phone devices than anyone else -- a claim at odds with data from Localytics. Moreover, given the ground that Windows Phone still has to make up in the wider smartphone world, one might wonder whether a more cooperative spirit between OEMs might be more appropriate?

Hopefully, Windows Phone's overall market share of the smartphone world will increase, and so every slice of the Windows Phone pie be worth more.
