Nokia Transport version 2.1 gets full release

Published by at

After two beta releases the commercial release of the second major version of Nokia Transport is now available from the Windows Phone Marketplace. Key improvements in version 2.1 of the app, which provides public transport (trains, buses, trams etc.) route planning in more than 500 cities worldwide, include support for multiple pinned Live Tile destinations, a more detailed line view, and a nearest station feature.

Nokia Transport currently has route planning and schedule information (i.e. timing information for next departures) in more than 100 cities, and supports route planning in an additional 450 cities. It complements Nokia other location apps such as Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps and Nokia City Lens, which together provide one of the most comprehensive and compelling mapping and navigation experiences available on any smartphone.

Planned journeys are shown in a summary format, with walking sections and public transport sections. The public transport sections include a colour coded indication of which public transport route to take (with timings if available). Tapping on the Nokia Maps icon on the walking section will launch Nokia Maps and show you a route to your nearest public transport station, or to your final destination.

Destinations can be pinned to the Start Screen. Tapping on a destination tile will plan a route to that destination from your current location. This is ideal for quickly finding the best route to frequently visited placed (home, office, hotel, main line station etc.).

The nearest station feature identifies the closest public transport stations and, where available, shows information about upcoming departures. This is useful when you're in an area you don't know well and want to see the available public transport options in the immediate area.

Compared to the previous commercial release there are also a number of usability improvements (ability to change your search in the journey view), improving the apps overall user experience. The overall performance has been improved, with faster display of upcoming journeys and faster processing of journey requests.
