With our re-jigged application directories (see the new Windows 10 UWP one), it's natural to also update the AAWP Universal app too, which offers quick access to our application and game directories, see the notes, links and screenshots below.
This is a UWP app, as the name suggests, and is for any phone upgraded to (or running natively) Windows 10 Mobile. Since the last time we featured 'our' app, way back in July, here's the changelog for v1.6.2:
Fixed a bug when opening contact dialog that could cause the application to crash.
Added the new Win10 UWP app directory to the list of recognised directory articles.
Gave the whole 'App Directories' section in the main menu a bit of tidy up, in keeping with recent changes on the website.
Here's the new version in action:
Tap the App Directories '...' expander and you now get a different breakdown of the various application listings for the platform, in line with the 'Apps & Games' section of the main site.
Tap through to the 'Windows 10 UWP apps' and you get the feature/URL posted on the site a few days ago. And it's at this point that I wanted to veer off slightly into tutorial territory, since not everyone has noticed the new 'Directory' tab at the top of the screen. This kicks in for directories and explains why the 'Article' tab doesn't have much in it! (right) By default, you're thrown in at the first category, expanded, as here. Note that the boldened items are shown that way because they link to internal AAWP review content, while non-bold items link through to the 'raw' Microsoft Store for your country.
As examples, tapping through the boldened 'CAS Preview' takes you through to the last editorial content about that application, while tapping through 'Cloud Drive!' takes you to the Store.
And a reminder that tapping on any category title collapses the directory view to this graphical category browser - it's a quick way to get around; (right) Another way to get around is to search - there's full quick matching in the directory as you type!
In this case, I started typing 'Twit' looking for Twitch clients, and found this app, with latest article shown here. Then just follow the links to the Store to download.
As ever, AAWP Universal is wonderfully flexible, there are dozens of ways of configuring what it does automatically, what it does in the background, what it shows on the live tile, etc. (right) Don't forget to drop Joe, the developer, a virtual coffee every now and then, to say thank you!
Comments welcome for Joe, he'll read and take it all in, we promise!
PS. By the way, aside from Rafe being in the podcasts, virtually all the content for AAWP is now being written by me, as you've probably gathered. I/we'd love to have some more guest articles in 2018, so do please get in touch if there's a topic, device or application that you feel strongly about. You can reach me at slitchfield@gmail.com .
