Build 2014: Dual-SIM Nokia Lumia 630 and 4G Nokia Lumia 635 announced

Published by at

The Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 were announced today by the Finnish company at Microsoft's Build 2014 conference. The low to mid-range handset comes in three variants - two of them are labelled as the Lumia 630, a 3G design with dual-SIM or single-SIM options, while the Lumia 635 brings 4G connectivity to the table.

The big-ticket item to note is the dual-SIM option. This will be the first Lumia to sport a dual-SIM design, although it's not the first Nokia to sport a dual-SIM design. The Lumia 630 will use the updated software in Windows Phone 8.1 to create the best environment for dual-SIM usage possible, including dual phone and messaging tiles, plus the option to combine these for a unified experience.

Other specifications place the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 at the high point of the low end. The Snapdragon 400 SoC will run at 1.2 GHz, backed up by 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of on-device storage. There is microSD card support, and as always you have access to 7GB of cloud storage via OneDrive.

The Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 continue the 6xx tradition of interchangeable coloured shells to allow for personalisation. Looking at the press shots, the initial availability will be for green, orange, yellow, black, or white shells.

The Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 will ship with Windows Phone 8.1. The 3G enabled Lumia 630 devices are expected to ship in May, initially to India, the Middle East, South America and Europe. Price is expected to be $159 (€115) for single SIM and $169 (€122) for dual SIM before taxes and subsidies. The Lumia 635 will follow "in the summer" for $189 (€137) before taxes and subsidy. This variant is also being targeted at the US market.
