Review: Yahtzee (Electronic Arts)

icon

This isn't the first Yahtzee game on Windows Phone and it probably won't be the last - but it's definitely the most official, with Electronic Arts licensing the title from the official copyright holders. Which saves a lot of naming worries and means that Yahtzee here can be a no holds barred implementation of the classic dice strategy game. In fact, you get the full game plus a lot else, including one-on-one competition and a genuine Yahtzee rules enhancement, adding in extra (colour) elements. NB. At the time of writing, this is exclusive to Nokia-powered Windows Phones, though I'm sure its availability will be widened in future.

Review: Galactic Reign (XBox Live)

icon

And we're back with the impressive XBox Live titles. Quietly arriving last week, Galactic Reign is a tactical combat game, where you have no control over the combat. Taking a higher up view, you set up your space fleets and send them off into battle. How did they got on? Well, you'll be able to sit back and watch the whole battle in a rendered video, just like your favourite space opera! And did I mention you'll be playing against your XBox Friends?

Review: Dragon Portals

10tons have released Dragon Portals for Windows Phone, their take on the Match Three game. And, with a little bit of smart thinking and graphics, have created a game that genuinely delivers a fresh view on the genre.

Review: Monster Pinball HD

icon

Fresh from my pinball adventures in Dr Pickaxe, I headed into Monster Pinball HD on an adrenaline high. It's fair to say that I found tables aplenty, effects aplenty and always something interesting happening - yet somehow there wasn't the same sense of satisfying physicality in this alien-filled pinball extravaganza. Classifying this game as 'disappointing' would be doing it a disservice - Monster Pinball HD just didn't grab me as a great pinball title would have done.

Review: Fodor Travel Guides

Long time publisher of travel guide books Fodor's have brought out a series of  digital versions of their guides for Windows Phone. Currently there are seven tourist destinations around the world (Austin, New York City, Paris, London, Rome, San Francisco, and Barcelona). As I'm spending this week at SXSW, I've been looking at the Austin version of the application.

Review: Farm Frenzy 2: Pizza Party

icon

When I first reviewed Farm Frenzy on Windows Phone, I found that the XBox Live title was very addictive, but it seemed to be missing a little something that kept me coming back. Well, six months later, on a whim I downloaded the app again, and it hooked me. Once I had burned through the levels, I was looking for more. And while it's not an XBox Live title, the 'sidequel' 'Pizza Party' is available as a standalone title in the Windows Store.

Review: Zuma's Revenge (XBox Live)

icon

Anyone who has paid any attention to mobile games in the last few years will know about the Zuma genre of games. Thanks to the licencing deal with EA, Nokia can bring the franchise to Xbox Live with no compromises. Accept no limitations, this is the frustrating, fast, and fun, real deal.

Review: iBomber Defense (Xbox Live)

icon

Scottish developers Cobra have built up a tower defense style game that does everything you would expect of a game in this genre, but does it with enough style and good looks that it feels a genuinely new experience. Initially released in January with some bugs and issues, the Nokia exclusive is back in the Windows Store with a bit more polish, but is it enough?

Review: Flow Cube

icon

Flow Cube is a logical puzzle game, with no timers, bonuses, or levelling up getting in the way. All you have to do is join up the coloured dots on the playing field. But unlike your common garden puzzle game, this game takes place in three dimensions...
