Review: Wallpaper Studio 10 UWP

icon

Wallpapers first, Windows first. A fully featured wallpaper browsing, upload and management system, Wallpaper Studio 10 is also a shining example of how flexible, powerful and downright pretty a UWP application for Windows 10 can be.

Review: Pixel Battle: Gun Strike 3D UWP

icon

Take the retro cutesiness of 'pixel' artwork and splice in a full 3D world and FPS shooter, make sure that the in-app-purchases are sensible and restrained, and what have you got? A top UWP game, that's what. The graphics do look a little over-the-top in terms of deliberate pixellation, but the gameplay is top notch and everything's very well thought out.

Review: Kamal Star Lumia 950 Replacement Battery

icon

Possibly THE biggest 'Frequently Asked Question' in the Windows phone world is 'Where can I buy a spare battery for device X?' Yes, we're dealing, in many cases, with phones with replaceable batteries - an admirable attribute but only if you can buy the spares! With this in mind, I'm 'reviewing' a third party Lumia 950 battery here - and it's not terrible. Somewhat to my surprise!

Review: Cartograph Maps Pro UWP

icon

It's not often when I admit that a review of mine is horribly incomplete. However, in this case, the only way to really, truly review Cartograph Maps Pro UWP is to head out into the wilds and find some mountains, treks and trails, and I'm going to leave that to Gilbert, one of AAWP's guest reviewers(!) In the meantime, I can at least show you the basics of the application - it's a comprehensive mapping and tracking system for all Windows 10 form factors, with a steep but manageable learning curve.

Review: BlitzWolf PF-2 - ultimate in-pocket power?

icon

You may remember that I reviewed the nifty BlitzWolf PF-1 last year? Ultra-compact build, Type C-equipped, but with a foot planted firmly in the past with regards to fast charging standards. Jump forward to 2018 and AAWP (exclusively) has access to its successor, the more current (pun intended!) and more capable PF-2, which is shaping up to my ultimate pocket power bank. There's only one catch...

Review: Demolition Derby Multiplayer UWP

icon

Something for the weekend, sir? Perhaps a dollop of gasoline-fuelled car smashing adrenaline? You see, Demolition Derby Multiplayer UWP is a terrific game that's hard to fault for Windows 10 on Mobile, tablet or desktop. Driving against both humans 'bots', your goal is essentially to smash all other cars to smithereens and be the last vehicle driving. It's fast, fluid, and you're into the multi-player action incredibly quickly.

Review: Torrex UWP

icon

Another of the star UWP applications for Windows 10, i.e. for phone, desktop, XBox and more, Torrex has in fact never been covered on AAWP, partly because of the associations with (ahem) dodgy illegal/pirated downloads. But torrent technology is being used to deliver all sorts of large downloads, many of which are 100% legal, so I feel justified in highlighting the application here. It's stunningly and lovingly coded - if you have any awareness of the world of torrents and have a Windows 10 Mobile smartphone then grab this with both hands.

Review: Wileyfox Pro (part 1: pitch, hardware, performance)

icon

The latest Windows 10 Mobile smartphone is interesting in many ways. It's ostensibly underpowered compared to some in the Android world at a comparable price point, yet the Wileyfox Pro is aimed at a totally different audience, one for whom Android isn't an option. As only the second new Windows 10 Mobile smartphone launched this year, this occupies quite a rarified space  - but can it make this space its own?

Review: Yaht 3D UWP

icon

An almost perfectly implemented game, Yaht 3D has been around for a while in Windows Phone 8.1 form - and implemented as a UWP application, bringing in Windows PCs and Hololens, etc. Dice rolling super-realistically, scoring with virtual pencil rings, and so on. Well worth a download for Christmas if you're after a graphically sophisticated game with quick yet thought-provoking gameplay.
