Windows 10 Mobile may be far from the front line of Microsoft's 2019 mobile plans, but underneath the hood the foundations are receiving kernel and security fixes. There's a new update today (6pm, GMT) for all phones currently running the 1709 branch ('Fall Creators Update'), so go grab it now. Similarly, there's an update out for all phones running the 1703 branch ('Creators Update'), though this is now close to its support 'end'.
One of the very first UWP applications for Windows 10 Mobile was the third party encrypted database OneLocker UWP and we featured it here two and a half years ago. Since then it has continued to evolve, but I've been chronically guilty of ignoring its development. That changes now, with a summarised changelog up to the current version for all Windows 10 desktops, hybrids, tablets and yes (to an extent) phones.
Last November, I lambasted Microsoft for a lack of care in the coding of its Store updates, with various cosmetic and usability issues which have remained... until just now. Because all issues have been fixed with today's update for all Windows 10 Mobile phones. See below for screenshot proof!
Windows 10 Mobile and Cortana may not be quite as dead as some might think. We've still got a year of life and support left, and the last 24 hours saw the switching on of Cortana integration with newish 'wonder' app Microsoft To-Do (UWP), which itself has been getting updatesevery fewweeks. The upshot is that you can now (e.g.) tell Cortana to add such and such a task "to your To-Do list".
Just a quick note to say, that at some point in the last few months, I think Microsoft finally fixed its issues with backed-up non-Lumia-shot photos, some details and links below. Sorry if this sounds nebulous, but all is working now, and it certainly wasn't in the middle of 2018. Yay!
Windows 10 Mobile may be far from the front line of Microsoft's 2019 mobile plans, but underneath the hood the foundations are receiving kernel and security fixes. Build 15254.547 (from .544) for all phones currently running the 1709 branch ('Fall Creators Update') is fresh out today, so go grab it now. Similarly, build 15063.1563 (from .1506) is out for all phones running the 1703 branch ('Creators Update').
As detailed in my multi-partreview, the Wileyfox Pro is no flagship, but there's still quite a bit to like - and at under £60 now it's a) surely the bargain of the year, and b) probably the last time a Windows 10 Mobile phone will be offered for sale, new. So be quick.
So... it's the end of 2018 and AAWP is still around. And you're wondering what our plans are for next year, in the context of one OS which is now officially not supported anymore (Windows Phone) and one which is entering its last year (Windows 10 Mobile)? Some thoughts below, but not until we have wished you all a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!
