Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update arriving on production UK phones

I thought it worth noting that Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update (originally codenamed 'Redstone 2') is now rolling out officially to 'production' users in the UK, with multiple people tweeting and emailing me over the last 12 hours to confirm this. The actual build is 15063.251. See below for plenty of helpful links that are relevant here.

New Windows 10 security fixes for all today, Patch Tuesday

icon

Whatever Windows 10 Mobile-running phone you own, whatever its status, the chances are that you have a new OS build waiting for you in Settings right now. This is, of course, Microsoft's regular 'Patch Tuesday', even if they don't call it that, and I've quoted a few example version numbers to look out for.

Creators Update to roll out from April 25 through June 2017

icon

The Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update is set to roll out from April 25 through June 2017, though there's in fact little to get excited about in terms of timing. 'Production' status regular users won't know it's coming and thus won't care, while enthusiasts reading this can... get it whenever they like, thanks to the 'Release Preview' Insiders ring.

Microsoft officially announces x86 emulation on Windows 10 on ARM

icon

At the Windows Hardware Engineering Community event (WinHEC) in Shenzhen, China a few hours ago, Microsoft and its partners unveiled their plans for PCs and mobile devices running Windows 10. Most relevant to AAWP is that x86 emulation is indeed coming to Windows 10 on ARM chipsets (as was rumoured) - think running legacy x86 applications directly on a Windows 10 mobile device. Notice the lowercase 'm' since we're not exactly talking traditional phone form factors here.

Films & TV: December 2016 update and round-up

icon

Loathe as we are to putting up news stories for every minor update to every application, it does prove useful every now and then to summarise what's new, especially in a core Windows 10 Mobile application, if only to wet your appetite to give it another try and explore some new functions and features. Such is the case with Films & TV, whose recent changes are listed below. The most recent changes below were added only yesterday, at least for anyone on the Windows Insider Fast ring. If you're on the 'Slow' ring or even on the Anniversary Update still, then this new version may take a few weeks to arrive and not all the stuff below will apply!

Into the 'Creators Update' (Redstone 2) era: the Insiders 'Slow' ring switched

icon

As each new build of next year's Redstone 2 Creators Update for Windows 10 Mobile hit over the last few months, the 'Slow' Insider ring had stuck determinedly to mirroring the Redstone Anniversary Update 'Release Preview' builds. I'd been saying that it was only a matter of time before the 'Slow' ring got switched up to the next major OS version and this has now happened (last night). Changing the update landscape for many of our enthusiast Windows 10 Mobile devices.

Perfect Flicker arrives to save the day

icon

The Flickr story so far on Windows Phone and beyond. Flickr Booth came and went, Flickr Central came and then... got stuck in a login loop for most people and developer doesnt seem interested. In desperation, I even went and did a tutorial for managing your Flickr content via Microsoft Edge. But now we have a brand new UWP Flickr client, it's from an active and reliable developer, and it's called.... Perfect Flicker (sic).
